Caught my first Bowfin today on Fork!!!

I grew up hearing them called "Grinnel" or grindle. Also called Choupique (shoe-pick) by the Cajuns.
Have caught them over 10 lbs. Interesting side note they look amazingly like the invasive specie snakehead.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Yeah until its tail broke the surface. Luckily I saw someone catch one on TV and remembered they had teeth. Otherwise I would have lipped it without a glove. Bet you thought you had a toad for awhile.

The state record is 17.65. I boated a #24 in 1989 on fork that I didn't know was a state record. Got a polaroid picture somewhere. They are usually colored up this time of year. Definitely better be ready for a fight if you bring it in the boat.
And I know who "Jeff" is.

They will stay near their fry after the hatch protecting them. They will kill a jig also at that time.
