A question for you guys. This is my second year in Texas and first year catching whites, hybrids and stripers. All my previous years of fishing was in Louisiana chasing bass, crappie, redfish and specks. What do the whites and stripers do after they spawn out? Do they school up at all or are they all stragglers running around on their own?

They tend to group up in large schools and gorge on shad for the rest of the year, lol. Typically, you won't catch just a couple but multiple fish and sometimes large numbers (not unusual to get to triple digits if you find the right school). You will find them from the surface schooling on top all the way to the bottom. In the DFW area, you will find a lot of the schools in 15'-30' in the summer. Humps, points, etc tend to congregate them and little wind can make it even better. You can scope out the areas I mentioned above but a lot of angler just look for the parade of boats in prime areas (they tend to congregate at a handful of places on each lake year after year) and mingle in. if you decide to go that route, please be respectful of others and try not to over crowd, throw over other anglers lines, troll thru the school, etc. There is usually plenty of fish in the general area to go around and they will also move around following the bait. Gulls can show you the way too or shad running along the surface. One thing to mention, a lot of the bigger fish will be at or near the bottom picking off the injured shad. Not to say you can't find big ones schooling on top occasionally but a lot of times the smaller fish expend the energy chasing the shad and the big lazy ones hang around deeper (below the schools) and take the easy pickings. Lots of fun catching schoolies on top though, especially if you have kids or novice anglers onboard who may not do well feeling the bite of deeper fish on slabs and spoons. Have a great summer!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Great post, Scott!
