Spent the last weekend wade fishing and kayak fishing around Shaw island and didn't catch a single white on the north or south side of the island, and really never saw any schools or birds hitting the water. It's pretty rare to go a whole weekend without a single fish in April. There were plenty of baitfish in coves and we had no problem seining more than enough shad. Word on the street was people haven't been catching whites from the bank yet. Anybody heard or experienced otherwise? Are they late coming out of the river and just not into the post-spawn feed yet?

We fished Thur,Fri, Sat & Sun with two boats. It was very slow on both live and artificial. Very windy Sat & Sun. Found some pretty good fish on the graph but couldn't make um drink our koolaide.

Sorry to hear you had a rough time, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't able to make it happen. I guess they just weren't feeling it. Hopefully they'll be in a better mood this weekend.

First weekend in April last year I fished Buchanan(for the first time) and did not even get a bite in 2 days. Talk about being humbled. It was a long drive home to Leander and not sure if my wife believes I even went fishing! Lol.

They are hard to pattern this year. I figured with the warmer weather they would have already done thier thing. 2 weeks ago I fished belton and caught whites all day at the dam furthest point in the river from the creeks and rivers and every one of them was full of eggs and sperm. Don't get it.

I haven't been out in a while but keep up to date from my buddies who are guides. I know this weekend there were 5 fish that went over 15lbs with the largest being just short of 19. Seems most are being caught South of Shaw down to the dam.

Brandon knows who the Striper King is. And its not him. I laugh till I cry everytime I think about the time brandon cussed out the people at the boat ramp that had "Striper King" written on their boat. Then afterwards, he found out they were the wrong people.

snowy river.
Seems like you kill many good threads by coming in and starting a mud slinging contest. For those of us who enjoy the site for what it is supposed to be please kind. Running down someone elses mistake for years does not make you a king. Thanks for the information and have a great fishing trip next time out.

I went out again last weekend and happened upon a small school of whites hitting the surface at sunset Friday evening in the middle of some mesquite in about 4 feet of water. I managed to catch about 10 in a little over 10 minutes but only 3 were keepers. I will say that playing a fish and trying to keep your kayak out of mesquite trees in the wind is quite a challenge. It looks like I may be done for this spring season, as I have to spend my weekends from here till June studying for a medical school board exam. Too bad I wasn't able to get into any really good schools of fish this year, but I suppose thats why we don't call it catching.

I don't know anything about guides on Buchanan or anyone else who fishes out there, but I'm 2 for 2 in posting a thread asking what's going on around the lake and having it devolve into boat ramp stories and fish royalty. No judgement here, just a trend I've noticed.

Thanks to all for the info and tight lines.
