Fair enough. Am I correct on preferred means of IDing then? My preferred means is eyesight. I can identify all the venomous species in Texas by sight. Not all patterns are similar within a species, either. But I damned sure don't get down on the ground and look into their beady little eyes

What about smelling their breath. I hear the venomous ones have bad breath.
