I would love to get back into trail riding. I have a 15 year old Trek that needs a tune up and new tires. Haven't ridden it in 10 years. Would want to start out on some easy trails and work my way up.

Get that bike in shape and hit those trails.

Mr. Lakeforkfisherman,
Which trails are near you? What part of DFW?

To all,
Below is a link to the DORBA site, (Dallas Off Road Bike Association) and it list all the trails within a pretty wide distance from DFW. Pick yours, suit up and ride.

* Close and Open is imperative to keep peace. Do not ride closed trails. Some riders/hikers don't care, others do. It starts big arguments to ride "closed" trails. Me, I'm indifferent, because it's dirt and mud. Regardless, I don't ride closed trails because the mud stops you anyway. It's too difficult.

Get that bike and ride!

Trust me, once on the trails, in the woods, spinning dirt, jumpin' snakes and riding along creeks, you will feel like a kid again!

You can look it up on bicyclebluebook.com and see what it's worth. Jamis makes good bikes, I'd imagine even if it's 10 years old it's probably worth two or three hundred.

Yes, Jamis makes super high-end bikes and budget bikes, and yes, the budget bikes are pretty good, just like an introductory Specialized Hardrock hardtail.

I'd guess for $80, it a hardtail, like mine, and a pretty good deal for that price used. Good stuff.

Got pictures?
Can you do your own maintenance, or have a buddy who knows? If not, a quick run to a bike shop so that a tech can clean it up for you, (not the dirt, but the gears, brakes, etc.)

Good stuff!
Some trails are currently open, but this time of year, the rain determines all!

I think that is what is called a hard tail , frame on rear tire is fixed , doesn't swivel up and down like a shock effect . But the other type start really getting into high dollar but are alot more comfortable . That should be a good starter bike and for $80.00 sounds like a good deal .

Yep, hard-tail and very nice for most of the DFW trails. There are a few that can be rough, but most are not. It's not as if we ride mountain trails here.

Rougher, but rideable trails...
Oak Cliff
Big Cedar
Boulder
Isle Du Bois, to name a few.

* If you get a trail bike, but it's been a long time since you rode, ride around your neighborhood, stand up while peddling, jump curbs, go around mailboxes, closely, and be careful, but reacquaint yourself with maneuvering a bike like you were a kid. Ride in the grass at a park. You'll have a blast, and it will help.

Soon enough, those who partake can do a meetup and ride!

I've started messing with mine again, broke the chain this past winter and got a newer one on it yesterday. If I get some pedals back on it, it'll be "ride-able".

Here's our trail here in WF. I haven't ridden it in several years but I'd like to start. It's got a bunch of those skinny wood bridges like you see on videos from the NW.

I did look it up, and there is no discernible correctness.

Ride!

Saturday morning, 10:15 now...

Will hit Rowlett Creek Preserve bike trail around noon, red F150, come out.
My bike is gray with green stripes.

I'll go fish Breckenridge for an hour first, probably too late, no fish, but I'll give it a go.

...come ride

Well like I said me and the wife are no spring chickens and can't ride long and hard like you young guys/gals can frown . But I did manage to get mine and the wifes TREKS cleaned up and took a ride for a while just here around a few blocks a few times . Probably about a couple miles . Boy it sure felt good but we got to get back into shape and riding more . Had fun tho , been over a year since we road . Here's a picture of our bikes . Sorry we can't do trails rides like ya'll can , sure wish we could ! I got about 40 lbs I need to loose . Maybe I can do that this year .

disc brakes vs caliper brakes -- i have stayed away from disc brakes because i have been told by a few riders they become ineffective when they get wet??? does this have merit for a bicycle???
