I think some of us are failing to see the big picture. This should not be an argument. I am all for anything that helps fish survive in live-wells whether it's using ice, VT-2's or oxygen added to the water or products like Please Release Me....... I am a fan of more fish surviving and am trying to do whatever I can to help and play my part in that. The VT-2's are $45, that's not expensive. Let's all slow down and think big picture here folks.

If there is no appreciable difference then you are buying snake oil.

Trying to do the right thing with disregard of it making no difference is still doing nothing'.

I don't see how allowing fresh air to go into the live well and letting bad gas inside the well vent off is a bad thing, especially hot air. It's like the car with windows rolled down or up in the summer when parked... It gets hotter when the windows are up. They look good enough for me, will be on the list for the Blazer soon.

I don't either. I just don't understand people being against them. It's amazing. At least people are making an effort. I'm not sponsored by them. I'm just an idiot who saw they made a huge difference in my fish in the live well. No ice, no nothing, just added them and the fish were very lively compared to a few weeks prior when I had a fish die in live-well without the vents. I think we need some perspective here people.

I'm not against them....but without scientific data I am not buying it.

I don't think any livewell lid is truly air tight.

May I ask a question: do you run a Ranger or use Oxygenator?

I have a Ranger and the Oxygenator was installed before I bought my boat.

I have had fish in the livewell with and without it on......not sure I can tell a difference.

I'm not bashing them or you if you have them but there are so many things sold just to play on people's conscience.....I'm not rushing to buy them until I see some significant data proving they are valuable.

Thanks, I appreciate your line of thinking and your comments. I guess there are 2 things I struggle with though. 1. They're only $45, so they're not an expensive item like if they were $445. 2. I have read many, many instances of real-world tests and seen it with my own eyes of people who are not sponsored (myself included), that simply added them and saw a HUGE difference in the condition of their fish, ESPECIALLY in summer when it's hot. I guess I am failing to see what further proof you need and if seeing for yourself is not enough. And please know, I am for someone running an Oxygenator if that's what they want to do to try and help fish care. I just don't understand people who are so vehemently against them.

Note: there also seems to be a common thread between those people who are strongly against the vents and them running Rangers and Oxygentors, but I haven't yet figured out why. Just a fact I've noticed, but can't find a correlation.

These things have been out long enough that opinions are formed. I doubt anyone is going to change their mind. You either see it as $45 and money well spent or a company charging $45 for something that costs a few bucks to produce and with no tangible impacts.

From the time I first read of them I felt like more air was exchanged by simply culling fish and the opening/closing of the lids than what these can introduce by the small diameter opening.

Using the analogy of the windows of a hot car... Are you going to crack them and let air exchange, or are you going to roll them down?

Any issue with a partner stepping on them and it breaking. Are they tuff enough?
