I've had both and they are both good. I like the touch screen and the prompts on the lowrance, however my Hummingbird had a feature where you could change your map elevations as the lake levels rise or lower. I have yet to figure out how to get my lowrance to do that.
Since I've used the Lowrance for two years now, I like it.

Birds. Lakemaster maps are the schizzle.

had both. both are good. I like the hummingbird for ease of use and Si. I think the Lowrance ahs better DI, but since I don't do much video game fishing the HB is what I prefer.

My first units were HB 1198 and 998. Really liked them. Then got a deal on some Gen 3 Lowrance 9 and 7's. Sold the HB's and installed those. Now just got a new boat 2 weeks ago and the dealer said he really liked the new HB Helix 12's. So the new boat has both a Helix 12 on the Ram mount and Bow. So, I have played with all of the most recent and don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. I do agree the clarity of the images seems better on the Lowrance but it's not night and day....its just slightly better especially if you have Slade get them set up for you. I will say this....my new Helix with the Hub connected to my Ultrex is easily the sweetest functional set up I've ever seen. I was amazed at what it can do from a trolling motor navigation stand point. You can literally drive the trolling motor from the graph sounds goofy but what if you want to retie something and want to hit a brush pile 100 yards away....you simply select the way point, hit GO and sit down and re tie....the units do the rest.

So that all being said, you need to just go with what your budget and preference is because you really can't go wrong with either unit.

I am by no means an expert on electronics but feel free to send me a PM with questions.

I've had both. I now have Helix 12 & 9. IMO...Lowrance has better 2D sonar but HB is far superior with DI and SI, and mapping. Yes, Lakemaster Maps is the schizzle.

I have had both and agree with most of what everyone above has said. I like the SI better on the Bird and the 2D better on the Lowrance.

I really like the features of lowrance but the customer service is terrible.

I've used both for thirty years. Like them both.

I have fished both.

And the winner is RAY MARINE!

The DS on the Dragonflies is far superior to the Lowrance and the Bird. The 2d stuff they are all about the same.

Cant speak to SI as I dont cheat when I fish.
