Fished Canyon for a couple of hours after work. Caught three nice bass on rocky points. One on a gold/black trap, the two others came on carolina rigged speed craw. Female was still full of eggs and looked like it was ready to spawn within the next couple of weeks. One of the males had a small bluegill and small crawfish inside. Fish were in 5-15'.

Thx for the report

How come I keep catching small fish when every product I buy is supposed to catch more and bigger fish?

You're welcome newbie, if you want to "match the hatch" exactly, the crawfish on Canyon have a little orange in them right now as well. Yesterday I caught them on green pumpkin and used a q-tip to put just a touch of orange on the tail and one of the claws, worked very well.

Thx for the tip. Tried the speed craw today but didn't get a single bite. They did bite very good on a purple hum dinger though. Caught some in 2 ft of water

All the ones I caught that shallow were unders. I don't know if they spawn that early. Are you fishing the main lake?

I prefer to find my own fish, but if that's how you find yours maybe you should consider finding another hobby.

Back on the lake today for a few hours. Fished carolina rigged craws on main lake points and pockets.....no action. Came back through the same areas with a finesse worm and picked up a short on the fist cast. Continued down the point and picked up two nice keepers and another short. Steady action on the finesse worm the rest of the day.

How do you prefer to fish your finesse worm? Wacky with a nail? Drop shot? Shakey head?

Actually none of the above, I've been using a splitshot rig on Canyon with a lot of success with the finesse worm. Get some clam shell weights from bass pro ( I like #4 size) and crimp them onto the mainline, 1-3 feet above the hook. I space mine about 1" apart, and will use anywhere between 4 and 8 weights based on depth and wind. The weights are very snag proof and will come through rocks, trees and even hydrilla a lot better than a traditional c-rig. The only negative is that when the fish are finicky they will drop the bait when they feel the weight, so on those days I will switch to a 4" senko or put an attractant on the finesse worm so they will hold the bait an extra second or two, or then I will switch to a shakey head. Pm if you have any more questions.
Good luck,
J.P.
