most of these guys are fishing for a living and their earnings are the primary source of their income, so I'd take the Classic since it pays $300K and garners for attention from sponsors, media, etc. The AOY is definitely harder and would be more prestigious but last I check that won't pay the bills.

I agree with Chris G for the same reason.

Doesn't Jordan Lee being in 37th place after day 1 kind of squash the idea about losing the tournament on the first day?

Swindle got a check in every event last year. And I think he picked up $100k winning the AOY. I believe he cashed around $200k throughout the year in tournaments, with the $100k for winning AOY. All that said, if you're winning AOY, you're making money. Personally, I would take the Classic win.

Doesn't Jordan Lee being in 37th place after day 1 kind of squash the idea about losing the tournament on the first day? Depends some on which lake they are fishing. On Conroe you can catch a 30#+ stringer. Also it isn't a numbers lake so you can also zero after a big day. Lots of ground can be made or lost in a single day. Guntersville is similar. Lots of lakes there is a much less reasonable max bag size. You get too far behind no way you can make it up when most of the limits are in the same weight range.

Doesn't Jordan Lee being in 37th place after day 1 kind of squash the idea about losing the tournament on the first day? No. There are exceptions to every rule. The 2017 Classic proved that.
