Has anyone witnessed the channels cat starting to hang out at the bulk heads yet at Lake Conroe / Lake Livingston? That is always a fun time and I look forward to taking part in that again this year.

It should be about that time of year now that things are starting to heat up and water temps are rising?

Not sure about Conroe but Livingston is getting close with some fish being caught shallow against the the bulk head early morning. I catch mostly Blues but I use shad for bait , I catch a few channels but nothing like the Blues . Over the last 20 years you can almost bet on the first or second week of April when it is full out Shad assault.

I agree with Mr. Bullard about Lake Livingston. The spawning run at daylight has begun but it usually takes the fish about 2 weeks to catch on.

Conroe isn't far off. The shad were there this past Saturday up north of 1097. Not extremely thick yet, but they were there. Water temp was 63-64. In the next two weeks I would think it should be on once th fish realize where breakfast is hanging out at.

When looking for a place to fish the bulkheads do you just try random bulkheads or are you looking for something in particular. Will side imaging help locate them when they are on the bulkheads?

I have fished the Livingston bulkheads this week with customers and friends and the action has been very good for so early in the year. The shad started running the bulkheads last week before the cool snap and have returned in force this week. One sling of the net and you can fish all morning.

The first of this week a catch of 10 to 15 fish before 8:00 am was the rule.
It started picking up Thursday with 25 blues by 8:30 and yesterday was excellent with 29 blues.
The fish are very good size this year, not many dinks most solid great eating size fish.
Like Dewayne said there are not many channel cats of size in Livingston, it's blue cat country.
The action should keep getting hotter and it's a great time to have some fun and fill the freezer with great eating fish.

Fin& Feather those channels have been stuffing themselves with shad!
Action is staying hot on Livingston.
Customers Jerry, Scott, Chris and Jaden put the hurt on them yesterday doubling down for a meat haul with 30 blues, 2 hybrids, one striper, and 91 white bass by 10:30.
Young Jaden was on fire catching 13 of the blues on his on.

I prefer one the wind is blowing against and lined with white Egrets .My brother In-law and I was heading out one day a few years back and noticed an area I had never fished lined with Egrets we stopped and an Hour and a half and 40 fish latter went on our way. Points can be good and there does not have to be a bulkhead if the bait is there , I have caught many fish over the years in the spring off the same 3 or 4 wooded points , some with rock the others just a shallow shore line in 1-3 ft of water . Be willing to move around often if you are not getting bit.

Yes Dewayne is spot on, a bunch of white egrets bunched up and looking at the same 4 foot square patch of water means it's probably happening right there.
Ditto on a wind blown point. Some of the best spots from the bank are very long shallow flats the wind blows into. And are best early and fade quick when the sun comes up.
From a boat a steeper bulkhead and one with any transition, like wood to metal, or metal to rock, bulkhead areas seem to be best for me.
When the bite slows on the bank you can turn and cast out deeper and stay in the action longer.
Here is today's catch, some good blue cats still hitting until about 8:00 Am in the morning.

Fished April 1st on Lake Conroe and bite was just insane. had 4 limits of catfish and 4 limits of hybrids. We also caught and released at least 20 more under size Hybrids. Shad spawn really has these fish fired up and gorging themselves.
