Mud hole full of stumps. There are better options near Elkhart.

If you wanna fish shallow cover and timber launch at flat creek on 315.
You'll need to idle EVERYWHERE. Tons and billions of stumps just under the surface.... You'll catch 'em.

You'll catch stumps or fish? I've got my money on stumps...

Palestine isn't a lake you go to and magically catch fish. Yes it spits out some good stringers, but I would say rarely someone goes there for their first time and "catches them".

You have more of a chance knocking a hole in your boat idling or just fishing than "catching them" up north. Those stumps are hard as concrete and then you have t -posts, pipes, and some chunk concrete to contend with.

you might check the pockets around the Dam area, usually a late spawn down there. decent ramp on the dam, you can maneuver easily in this area.

I would stay south and go fishing. I know the lake pretty well and this is still what I do 90 percent of the time. Pick a section down south and approach it like you would any other lake with some map study. Like someone else said, Saline Bay area is also good and easy to navigate. The north end can be magical but it takes some time, gelcoat, and fiberglass to figure it out, and it really isn't worth it to me anymore.

Fish are still spawning all over the lake but the south end has more spawning than the north end. South end is clearer and you can spot them on beds easily if you like sight fishing. I will only risk the north end in my fiberglass boat for a tournament. Fun fishing can turn costly in a hurry on the north end. And my fiberglass is in the shop right now getting damage fixed from flat creek. I got 2nd in the tourney though so that will at least cover my deductible.

Look up Lake Palestine Resort. You can launch there. They have a store, cabins, RV spots, a caf. Everything you need and you can launch and never need to crank the big motor if you stay in Highsaw and Ledbetter and usually have some decent bass fishing this time of year. Or you can go under the bridge and to the main lake and take a right to go down to Cobb or all the way to the dam area. You can take a left and go up into Saline. Farther north from Saline and you get into the Flat Creek, Old Folks Playground, Kickapoo and Neches River area of the lake but if you haven't spent the last 20 years fishing this lake it would not be advisable to head to that part of the lake.
Main lake is not too bad to navigate if there is not too much wind blowing because it can be a little rough on the main lake with a north or south wind.
Good luck.

Take to heart all of this advise about north end. Saline, Ledbetter, Cobb - safe areas plenty of fishing. Go past the bridge at your own risk - seriously.

Thanks guys, I looked at a map and think I'll just launch by the dam and fish a few coves and points around there

The rip rap area of the dam part of the lake can be pretty good with a chatterbait or spinnerbait.
