Well guys I wanted to share my experience with the Classic on Conroe. I ran a camera boat all three days with the slo-mo video on board, so when you see that on the broadcast it came out of my boat!!!
Friday we shot KVD, Ike, Evers and then Ike again. We left Ike and went back to their trailer and picked up a tripod so the camera dude could get some shots of them running in for the day. He got some great video when Ike went airborne about 100 yards away. It was a rough SOB that afternoon.
Saturday we left before they did and went north to wait on Brent Ehrler. We were on him for almost an hour when we had to make the run south to repair another camera. Once that was fixed we made the run to find Ike and drop off the camera. Of course we caught him in mid move and had to fight through the gallery and then do the swap up on the bulkhead, fun fun. Once that was done we ran back north to fine Ehrler. Overall I made two runs south to north just about as far as you can on Conroe, it was a beating!
Sunday he filmed them leaving and we headed back to find Ehrler. He had a tough day. He left up north once and ran into Stowaway, then went back north. When the camera dude said lets go around 2:00 we heading south. Now with that said it was on a Sunday afternoon and 80 degrees, what does that do on Conroe? It brings them out!! I will say that running the main lake the traffic was not as heavy as I thought it would be. There were a lot of pleasure boats tucked in creeks out of the wind. It was not bad until we got south of Walden marina. Then the chop had to be 3 foot plus. Not waves, but just chop. I slowed down and made it in.
My camera dude commented that he has filmed BASS events for 20 plus years, all over the country and told me that was the worst chop he had ever seen. Sure there are bigger waves on Erie, but when it comes to pure chop, Conroe is a winner!
I have read other comments about the gallerys on Conroe, great job of giving the anglers room to work. It got a little tight on Ike when he was up in Walden Friday. I even talked to 3 guys who drove in from southern California pulling a boat to watch, they were out with everyone else. Let us hope that the gallery on Toledo in two weeks is as considerate.
Overall it was a great experience being a part of it, not sure I would do it again, pretty tough on the equipment and the driver!

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I think I met those guys at the weigh-in last night. Pulled their boat from Cali. 28 hours one way. Said he's never been on a lake so rough, but he'd do it again in a heartbeat! Now that's dedication!
