Not having the time to load up the yak on the back of the truck and with the weather pattern every weekend calling for rain, the break in clouds and rain today opened up the opportunity to walk my 5wt down to the pond. The wind was a bit cool, but certainly very comfortable. Also, with the one time change....I can fish after 6pm!!! Tied on one of my homemade flies, cast out a few times, and let the streamer sink. The bite started off slow, but as 7pm creeped closer, I cast out my fly into a bed of grass. I found the fish!!! It was one crappie after another, bass was also in the mix, sunfish and one fish that I'm still trying to ID. For 30 straight minutes, each cast produced a fish. Just like that....they stopped. I packed up the rod and walked back to the house in the twilight. Need some help in ID'ing the first fish pic. I'm leaning towards rock bass...although after fishing this pond for 10 years, I've never seen one or caught one.

Tied a new fly today....SUCCESS!!! Thank you for the compliment on the pics and for taking the time to reply! The pond is full of warmouths and Crappie. Fish turn on right at 7pm. By 7:30, I have no choice but to walk back home before it's dark. No paved trails or lights where I fish.

Tom invest in a good head lamp with a red light setting. if you need light while fishing use the red won't spook them bad.

Well, I took another trip to my pond, since going to the lake is not an option at this time. Caught the usual bream and bass on my new flys, but caught another unexpected fish. One I've honestly never landed, or seen in this pond. I've been fishing this small pond for many years and for the most part bass and bream have been the standard catch. Is it possible these fish have been in here for years and I've just never landed one?
