Ok. Let's get something straight...There are no fish in Hubbard Creek!!!

Ok, maybe a few.

I grew up here and moved back after living in Odessa for 20 years. All i'm going to say is that it is fishing very much like it did in the early to mid '80's after the flood of '81. I have really enjoyed having it as a local secret, but I don't feel that it will be a secret for much longer. We are hitting a stretch of some really good tournaments with a lot of really good sticks.

If anyone does happen to hit some big, though, please return them after weigh-in. I ran into a couple of guys that pulled out a 7 pound beauty and they were taking her home to serve her up with some mash potatoes and green beans!

Oh yeah. I almost forgot. I caught 37 whites, 8 blacks, and some crappie in 2 1/2 hours Saturday evening. The evening bite has been better for me than the morning bite for me over the last three weeks.

The old KEAN radio tournaments were great tournaments for their day. And, none of the west texas boys were scared of muddy water that was as clear as coffee. Lotsa money won back up in Sandy and Lost creek fishing straight up and down in the bushes. I had a mold we called an Octopus that I would pour either black or white and put it on a black jig, I sure miss those days.
Now, on Fork, if the water is even stained, everyone panics.

I recall one KEAN radio tournament in about 1985 where they had some joker that called himself Rolando Martinez that they would interview every hour. He said he was a skin diver for Rotor Rooter. He was always on fish. Good times.

I don't recall Rolando but I wouldnt put it pass those DJ's. That was a fun tournament. I think I still have one of their old KEAN radio hats. You'll are going to talk me into going back to Hubbard just for old times sake. I bet the same places would produce.

Army I was living in Breckinridge from 1978 until 1985 and I think the flood you are talking about was in 1978 instead of 1981. I remember coming home from work and my wife telling me the lake is going over the morning glory. I also remember it didn't even rain in Graham and water backed up so far that it was within a couple of blocks of the Square from the water coming down the Brazos.

There was one in 1977, and then October, 1981. My dad owned Breckenridge Glass and Mirror, and we wound up spending the night in the shop. The next day we had to take a boat to our house. We had several families stay there until the water receded.

The Breckenridge American had a picture of an 18 wheeler flooded on the Mile Long Bridge from the '77 flood.

They still have a photo from the '81flood that was taken from the south side of the First National Bank Building. They tried to recreate that shot in May of last year when we last flooded, but the water was not as high as it was then.

There was one in 81. There other one was in August of 1978, most of the rain was in Albany and it flooded the lake and took out every bridge but 1 on Hubbard and Deep Creek. I think 13 or 14 people lost their lives in that one. I never want to see rain that hard again.

Look I agree there was a flood in 1981 my cousin and Aunt lived by the Gunsolus and both houses flooded but it didn't put any water in Hubbard Creek Lake. All of that water went into the Brazos.
I worked as a volunteer the night of the flood helping the sheriff's dept. evacuate people from their houses. I lived on the corner of Easton and Hullem on the East side and we got trapped on the West side of Gunsolus so we went to the Court House where Louie Hall was looking for people to help out.
