I was happy with the setups I currently own. Shimano Curado on St Croix mojo bass rods. Then this weekend I used a friends G-Loomis GLX rod... wow. It was incredibly light and crazy sensitive.

I am thinking about buying one a year until I replace the rods I own. My favorite technique is a weightless fluke, followed by a Texas rig.

My question to you is what to start with? Medium power / extra fast tip for the fluke or medium heavy / extra fast for t-rigs. Which would be more versatile?

Thanks for you opinions. Or just tell me to stfu and go buy one

The big bass guys out in California, TacticalBassin on YouTube, recommend that whatever rod you'd select for fishing out of a bass boat, to downsize one power for a kayak. It has to do with the fact that we are less anchored than a boat is and a few other considerations special to a kayak. So, if you lean toward a medium-heavy, they'd recommend a medium.

Also, one of the guys on a fishing TV program said that people almost always pick one power too much and he explained the downsides to too much rod stiffness.

I'd go with a medium power as a first choice if you are going to build a new collection of G-Loomis rods. You'd actually get more power out of the rod if you backed off the extra fast tip and bought one that bends farther back toward your hands.

Medium/moderate tip?

Brad

Since you don't have any, you could easily buy a used one off the TFF classified. What technique do you do the most or enjoy the most from your kayak? Buy a rod to match that technique.

Thank you for the input. I find myself fishing weightless more often than any other style so I went with the medium power. I was able to take advantage of the six pay going on at bass pro. Takes some of the sting out.

I definitely appreciate he advice. Can't wait for the rod to arrive now so I can take it out.
