I use them and they work great when I find the striper bunched up on structure. I don't think you can beat gizzard shad, but I've caught several striper using bream on Whitney. March and April seem to be the best months to use bream for me.

I've used them at PK when shad were not available. They work but not as good as shad. You'll be highly surprised at how bit a perch or shad a striper will eat.

My experience in using sunfish (bream) as striper/hybrid bait is simple: EXCELLENT!
Look for the ones with more orange or red on them. Dont know why, but these work better for me.

Depends on the size striper you target. A big striper will eat a 2 lb fish, shad, perch, sandbass, whatever it can catch. Usually 3 to 8 inch bream work well.

Oh, smaller perch will work just fine. Most of the time I'm using 3 to 5 inch baits.

8 inch? I gotta to got a bigger r&r Just loosen the drag a little more. Oh, smaller perch will work just fine. Most of the time I'm using 3 to 5 inch baits. This is true.^^^^ But he did ask "how big is too big to use for bait?" I know some guys who use one big perch and cut another in half for two cut baits. They usually catch bigger stripers.

Yep Aggie. You might even get the wrong one and they seize your truck and boat. Those fish and game laws are not suggestions.
