Went to Denton creek the other day to see if any whites had run way up in...got into about 60 crappie instead. Majority were around the 11 inch range, few bigger few smaller. 1/16 oz jig head with a 2" pearl black swim body, kept twitching, they liked the up and down motion.
Hopefully this rain puts some water into the system.

Updated: Waited a couple days after the rain and went this morning...not much of that rain went into the watershed. Creek was up a little from last weekend, good flow, slightly stained. Fish were all in or right on the edge of fast water. Twitched the same black/pearl red flake swim bait 2" long as last weekend.

14 crappie, all but 1 was legal; 2 sandies 12-14", stomache seemed soft and empty like they had dropped eggs recently; 1 black bass, about a lb; and 3 channel cats approx 5lb, 3lb and 12". All fish released.

Creek was thick with fry, saw a lot of minnows too - wonder if the fry are sandies?

Could be early spawning from up in the water treatment plant creek. Possibly where the fry come from. I see largemouth in that creek on beds early in the cooler months many times. Pecan creek on Lewisville has similar warmer water early spawn action too. I've caught spawning channel cats up there in February some years.

Tech03 - was nice meeting you, glad I could give some advice!
Fishbonz - Denton creek feeds into Grapevine Lake. We were between 377 and 35W. Pop open google map, can see where it starts at the lake at trophy club. Lot of people park at 377 and fish around the bridge. If you like walking, can hike back to Henrietta hole.

Hey FishingGuber,I frequent denton creek during the run and usually do not run into more than a handful of keeper crappie! I usually get plenty of sand bass and generally fish within a mile of the hole. Am I too far up?

Went this morning again, water flowing good, slightly stained and fairly warm. Caught only 4 crappie and a warmouth. Still tons of minnows and fry but nothing chasing them.

A little over a mile walk to get to Henrietta? Is that about right or is there a closer place to park to it?

I'm not sure about the exact distance however there is no closer place to legally park. I believe it is about an hour to hour and a half walk.

Thinking about heading out to check out the creek, has anybody been out there in the last few days?
