Well I picked up a yak on Saturday cleaned it up and waited for the opertunity to take it out on its maiden voyage.

I was going to go to Colorado Bend State Park to chase some whites, but being spring break decided against it. Instead I went to a little pond on FT Hood. Like the title says placed on a hill got in and slid into the water. Instead of a gradual incline I went into a hole. Pushed the nose in and took on water over the front of the cockpit. Need less to say I got wet. Pulled it back out drained the water and managed to launch for 15 minutes before it started getting dark. Managed these in the short time on the water.

All were ought and brought to hand on my 3wt TFO BVK. Foam bug for the gills, and #14 jig hook wooly bugger for the bass.
I did learn a few things on this short trip, one I need to install a anchor trolley and anchor, and maybe some outriggers until I get comfortable in my new toy.

Nice fishing and that's some skill to fly fishing sitting in a kayak like that in those weeds. Some water in the boat isn't a big deal. I do wonder though is that the 9.5 boat or a longer one? I've never taking on water like that on a steep incline with my heritage featherlite but maybe that is because my boat is the short heritage kayak?

it's not if you're gonna get wet but when. getting it out of the way makes it less dramatic the next time, and the next.......and probably the next

The second time out fishing in my SOT, I was turning around in the seat and got catapulted into the river. Even holding onto the yak, I sank past my knees in the mud. It took forever to work my way to the bank through that muck. I'm seriously hoping there's no next time. eek

Well I made my t thru the second round with out getting wet. I went fishless from the yak but once I got out I caught 4 whites on my 2wt fly rod, while watching the minnow clunkers pull out 3 limits in under an hour.

Sounds like some good lessons learned...nothing wrong with that. Congrats on sliming the new yak.
