I was curious how you guys that have the mega units compare them to the standard SI/DI units. I really don't use SI or DI on my 999 very much at all. I use the sonar most of the time so I am really interested in the chirp sonar and trying to decide if the additional cost would be worth it to me.

Night and day. A few guys have been in the boat with me, saw what it can do, and made their decision on their next graph no questions asked. It's very clear and very easy to tell what's down there. I was running an 1197 before I got the new Mega.

Keep in mind that with the core units, you only have chirp on 2D. If you want it on DI& SI, then you have to go Mega. Also, not all of the G2 units network, so if you are looking at doing that you need the G2N version.

they are worth the money. I would bet you would use SI & DI more if you get one. I have the Mega on the console and G1 Helix on the bow, I fish more from the back of the boat now and let my son have the bow.

DI and SI models have CHIRP Imaging also. All the first generation versions of the Helix 12 have CHIRP 2D sonar.
Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

Just got my Mega 12" yesterday, hoping to spend the weekend on the water figuring it out! Super excited!
