I could still be considered a newbie when it comes to saltwater fishing. I've made a few trips to Christmas bay with a little success catching small trout here and there and a lucky flounder, but I'd like to learn more. I mainly want to catch redfish, I love the way they fight and the challenge that comes with it.
My main problem in my eyes is that I'm just simply not in a good area to catch fish. I don't know where the good spots are and have basically stuck to following the south shoreline of Christmas bay in the morning, then going out about half a mile and anchoring and fishing there. I know that probably sounds dumb but I don't know what else to do.
Is there kayak fisherman out there that fish Christmas bay/drum Bay Area that would possibly let me tag along and learn a thing or two? I love saltwater fishing, it just doesn't love me.
Tight lines!!
You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Started fishing Christmas bay before there were roads to get there.
Check my response to the thread on fishing the oil rigs. Same advice, get someone local to go with. Saves a lot of guessing.
There are fish there year round, things cycle just like here and a local can tell you what, where and maybe even when.
Good luck. Phill
P.S. Christmas bay is enjoying a record rattlesnake crop right now. Seriously. Be careful in the grass and shallows.

Sean, there are some active kayak groups down on the coast. For whatever reason, lots of the topic/subject areas on TFF appear really "north half and east half of the state" dominant, at least to me. Likely, it is that we have so many lakes.
Certainly, the bass fishing section and several others are biased this way.
On the other hand, the texaskayakfisherman.com website seems to be dominated by the coastal crowd, again, as it appears to me. I think I'd give that forum a look. They talk about fishing down in the coastal areas all the time.
I bet you can get with one or more groups or guys looking for fishing partners going out and learn some great spots.
