Go to Graham. PK has never been a very good crappie lake. But it does have some big ones.

BRA last year put in a lot of crappie condos in PK and there is a list of the waypoints to those areas available on the web. I think most of them are in the Cedar Creek Area/Scout Island area. I do not know if they are producing yet as they are to far for me to go on 6 gals of gas from North D&D. Maybe someday I will put in at the State Park and go from there. I do know that crappie are being caught because one the of the guides on the lake was catching them. Of course he kept the secret of where to himself

They are in there, I have caught a few by accident lately. We used to keep a tree under our dock and caught them all the time. Time on the water looking for cover will be your best bet to find some. There are many little creeks to look into where they hang out. I have caught the most in the Northern part of the lake.

Go as far as you can up rock creek on the north end. There are plenty of laydowns and shallow brush. It has produced well for me in recent years.

Luke: PK is going to be a tough lake for crappie fishing. They are in there and I catch them occasionally but for me if you catch three keepers it's an awesome day at PK. Now if you are jigging around timber and laydowns you will catch fish, but they will be LM Bass, sand bass, drum, perch, catfish, carp ( carp seem to like those jerry tayor jigs), and stripers.
I launched at Rock Creek camp a week ago and fished frog branch and rock creek hard. I only caught one 8 inch crappie. Local lake guide Randy Wood says he catches a lot of undersize crappie mixed in the shad schools when he gets bait. I do not know where he is doing that.
As for the Cedar creek fish attractors BrazosRiverTom talked about, Cedar creek is huge. It takes my boat too long to get there from the peninsula. Plus, I hate to drive back in the dark at PK because I've already hit one deer and just after dark they are all along the road. Lot's of fish in Cedar creek though.
I think the best advice for crappie is another lake. Sad but true. Perhaps you should befriend BrazosRiverTom and HickoryNut, They fish Graham a lot and once that lake turns on it's pretty good.
Good luck to you.

Thanks Mike !
I will be targeting the whites and stripes MOSTLY ! Last year was really my first year to work pk. And I sucked at it lol. I can remember texting you numerous times and even trying to go off your tips I was still lost 😜 It's always me and the family and In My lil boat I was scared to run around much. Now I've upgraded to a much safer boat ! The lake is holding steady color ( prolly just jinxed us all ) and I'm doing better each trip.
Last year we fished tawok and RC and now the kids are spoiled.
But I'm hoping to find the crappie and learn the patterns of the fighting fish this year !
Got real tired of hitting the dock down below your house back on the slough catching those big 8-10" perch lol

Ok well PK has NO crappie !!!
So tomorrow when I get into good service then I'll share some pictures of some unknown fish that I can not identify!! I am hoping some of you guys can help with the identity 😱
But for the record I released EVERYTHING that was 11.5" or less lol. But on the bright side I only had to release a total of 7 !

You are the Guru for crappie at PK Luke. I won't catch that many all year on this lake.

Lol. Don't jinx me yet Mike.
It may take me another year to catch that many !
Although I did find some holding on structure in deep water, but they did not want my jigs. By the time I got minnows the wind had kicked up a bit. But will try again another day.
We need to fish together sometime.

I'm game for fishing. Just let me know. I'll be at PK most of the time until cold weather hits. I'm going fishing in just a few minutes. Gonna take two advil to make my back quit hurting from all the garden prep and fish cleaning I did today. We have very low wind so at least I can enjoy my time on the water whether or not the fish cooperate or not.

Good job. I spent the afternoon in Neely Slough, caught 2 keepers, which I let go. I do not clean fish if 4 or less. Was a wonderful afternoon on PK.

Nice job finding crappie on PK!
I've always heard that the Striper do a number on the crappie population in that lake...

Found some that was in 60+ ft of water. But I didn't have any minnows at that time. Couldn't get my jigs down to them.

Plenty of Crappie in PK. The key is to find trees on points and small flats from Costello to Rock Creek. The rock pile in the back of chimney slew and other places hold Crappie. The best method is to mark trees with gallon jugs and rope when the water is low.. Then when the water rises you have something to hold you over the trees. The trees around sand island also hold fish. PK has an abundance of underwater trees. Don't bother putting brush in the lake. There is plenty of brush to fish all ready.

There is plenty of brush for sure lol.
I had already started hearing back towards Caddo when I talked to you. Found a few more schools of what I think was whites but they wouldn't bite. Then found some crappie in DEEP water !

That's very interesting Randy. I may need to go up there and hit those points sometime. Underwater trees are very hard to fish though if there is wind which PK always has in abundance.
I have added some structure in coves that attract spawning shad. There's always a lot of small stripers and sandies in those coves when the shad go shallow. I figure crappie cannot do that because something will eat them unless they have cover. I was fishing shallow for crappie yesterday in Neely slough and saw a perfect example of this. A huge LM Bass cruising around a brush pile that had some 8 inch crappie in it. I don't even think a 16 inch crappie is safe at PK.

I caught some nice 12-13 inch black crappie a few weeks ago bass fishing, and yes they were black crappie. I know the whites get the black coloring during the spawn but before I got into bass fishing crappie fishing was my first love LOL I definitely want to target them more on PK .

Caught 31 keepers this evening in 1 hour. Plus about 12-15 unders. Will post pics tomorrow or next day when I get better service. A couple nice barn doors that my 8 yr old son pulled in. Not to mention my 4 yr old daughter wore them out as well lol

Luke98, don't you have baseball and other family things to do. I don't see how you can keep going to the lake right now. Kids first. Crappie for others who are not as busy as you. If you found the last remaining group of crappie on the lake, would be mighty nice of you to for go any further trips to PK this spring. Just saying.... I am just teasing, once again congratulations on doing so well at PK.

No offense taken buddy. We played ball from 830 to 1130. Started heading to the house and both kids went to hollerin " let's go to PK". Now what kind of dad would I have been to tell them "no fishing this weekend". The wife and kiddos love fishing more than myself ! Once you have been around us on the water a little then you would understand LOL On bright note ( for you ) I won't be keeping anymore Pk crappie til at least may or June. Only exception will be to update the youth record. 99.9% he broke it TWICE this weekend but I left my scales at the house and didn't want to drive allllll the way around the other side of the lake with out knowing for certain. But he caught two that was pushing 2 pounds pretty hard.

Now Randy, TPWD says there are no Black Crappie in PK. Just check out Texas parks and Wildlife. They are the experts. http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/possum_kingdom/ I sure do catch a bunch white crappie that look just like Black Crappie.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

They also say that crappie fishing is "poor" at PK. But if I told you guys how many I've kept on the last 2 trips then I'm sure some of you might be upset with me LOL. But I kept nothing but LEGAL keepers and and was with in my LEGAL quantities.

I have no problem with what you kept. It's against my religion to catch and release crappie.
Proverbs 12:27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

I completely agree !
Not I have a few meals of good fish in the freezer it's time to go back to working on the house, chasing the elusive striper. Once baseball is over then it will be time to dig in full force and learn the lake a little.
