I am losing big bass when they jump. Hardly ever lose fish 2 lbs or under. Texas rigged lizards, brush hogs, any type of creature baits. I am probably using too small or wrong type of hooks? 4/0 worm hooks are what I have been using. Or is that just fishing? Or is it that I just suck at getting them into the boat?

I think that's the main problem, my rod tip must be up when I'm fighting them. Seems like i can keep em on till they seem to tire, and I must be thinking of horsing them in the boat...

In addition to what Cody said, what type of rod are you using? Not brand but length, action and taper.

You might also be ripping holes in the mouth of the fish (big holes) might need to loosen up your drag or use a rod with a little less tip and more back bone

Big fish's mouths are tougher but if the hook penetrates well you shouldn't lose them because of the hook.

And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

You may try a different hook, some hooks will flex and cause you to lose some bigger fish

Had same issue until I really broke down each piece of my setups. I was using too heavy of a hook for the line type I was using. Heavy pole and line for heavier hooks. If you step down in line test and pole action, be sure to pick the proper hook for that setup. Too much stretch in line or give in pole with a really heavy hook will cause inadequate penetration vs. a lighter wire hook.

Need a different rod. With the braid you are setting the hook and ripping a large hole in the mouth. Fish jumps, line slacks and hook falls out.
Get a rod with a softer tip if you are going to use braid.
Watch the pros when they are flipping with braid. Their sticks bend like heck on a two pound fish, that is because they figured this out a long time ago.
I have that same rod and it is stiff as a board for a med heavy rod.

Get your rod tip down if it even looks like the fish is coming up. If the fish does break the surface try to have your rod pointed at it and keep the line tight until you land it. I've never had a problem with any type hook in particular but as a rule I try to use as small a hook as I can get away with. Usualy 3/0 or 4/0 for larger plastics. As long as the hooks are sharp you dont have to try to yank their heads off.

I go to great lengths to keep a big fish from jumping. If it pushes toward the surface I'll burry my rod tip as far underwater as need be to keep it from breaching. The odds are tough with big fish to begin with. They go to hell in a handbasket quick when they jump.
