With the very mild winter we had along with last years very mild winter the Rios have been on the the move all winter long. I have been catching a few on several trips this winter. Got these fishing a lake and a creek last week! Fish were holding by brush piles close to the shore in the creek. The lake Rio was holding next to a dock in about 4 feet of water. Worms were the bate used with a bottom technique. This should be a pretty good year for catching Rios. Catching Rios during the winter. It just don't get any better! fish

Nice fish Chuck! You have been nailing Rios throughout this winter! I have not caught any but I have only been using spinning and fly gear. Hope to catch a bunch on my flyrod this year. When will the Rios start to spawn?

Side Note: The local water bodies are looking super good! woot

Thanks Curtis for the reply! The Rio should start spawning in late March or early to Mid April. They should be moving into shallow water during these months. I would say from late spring till late October you should have a great time catching em on the fly! hooked

Thanks guys for the replies. Clayton. The one with a bump on the head is the female! Hope to get some BIG ONES this year! Conditions are going to be GREAT! hooked

Side Note: She had already developed the rash they get usually in the late spring and summer! A biologist said they can get the rash if there has been a mild winter which we had! Only effects Rios along with their "War Wounds" (rashes and cuts they get for fighting other fish). eeks

Have not seen any on nest yet. I did catch my first one of the year while fishing Mcqueeney. It was a good nine inch. She was in about 6 feet of water by a gravel bed.
