Recently lost my lower unit at a tournament. Didn't hit anything, just went out. It was put on in 2012, is black, and I think it's a Sportsman's Series. Merc ProStaff put on a shiny new silver one (TorqueMaster). Was curious if anyone knew of a good place to take my old one to be rebuilt. I'm in Frisco, so North Dallas area is preferred. Thanks for the help and direction.

Anyone know of a reputable outfit in the N. Dallas area that can rebuild a lower-unit? I live in Frisco, but I travel all over TX for work, so I could take it to someone in Houston or Austin area. I'm interested in getting it repaired and either keeping it as a back up or selling it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did they say what was wrong with the old gear case most of the time the failure is a busted pinion gear and if this is the case be sure and check the case itself and make sure it is not cracked in the area of the pinion when the gear splits in have or more pieces it will pouch out the gear case in that area......Opti

OPTI, Thanks for the note. That's what the Merc ProStaff Service guys told me too. They said they wouldn't really know until they opened it up though. If it's just the pinion gear, and nothing is cracked, is it a fairly inexpensive fix? On the outside, everything looks normal, no cracks or damage.
I'm thinking of getting it fixed and keeping it as a spare, or possibly selling it to someone looking for a good lower unit....but I don't want to spend $1500 and sell it for $1400. Thanks again!!
