I am looking for some information on fishing the salt water flats on the Texas
Coast. I am also seeking the names of some guides in those areas.
I will be staying in downtown Houston June 27-30

I know it is a long way between Galveston and the South Texas Coast. Basically, I will be staying in Houston, but by coming a few days early or staying a few days later, I will not be limited only to the immediate Galveston area.

I live in California (do not hold that against me), and fish quite a bit. I am not really interested in keeping any fish as I really do not want to bring it back on the plane. I am not partial to either spinning, bait caster or fly fishing. I am not a pure fly fisher, in fact that is on the bottom of the three in order of my total comfort. I just want to fish and have a great time.

Any help from any of you would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks from Tom in Chico CA

Anything within about 2-4 hours of Houston would be ok

Give me a call if interested, thanks Pat for the shout out. June in Seadrift can offer up some fun fishing, from wading knee deep grass beds for trout and reds, to wading the surf, and even sight casting reds if the conditions are right off the 6ft tower.

If you have a kayak (or can rent one) Galveston is a good area.

If you're in Galveston and want the best chance at a fishing shallow flats for reds go with Capt Steve Soule. He's a long time shallow flats guide and he'll teach you as well as put you on some great fish. He specializes in shallow flats.. one of the few in Galveston that offers what he does. Big trout as well as redfish.

There is a group on Facebook "Houston Fly Fishing" and a number of the members have poling skiffs. Sometimes they broadcast a need for a second on the boat, bow time for pole time.
