Decided it was going to be a little too windy to take the boat out, so my buddy and I decided we would trek out to the Brazos below PK to do some wading and hopefully catch some fish. Got out there around 9:30 and was surprised to see the water not at its usually clarity. Water had a very green tint and there was a lingering rotten egg smell around. Got closer to the damn to see that water was being pumped from the lake via the lower pipe at the bottom right of the damn instead of the usual pipes higher up. I am assuming the water being pumped in was from the bottom of the lake and thus the smell and off color tint of the water. As we got down to the water, we were also surprised at how much algae was growing on the rocks and edges of the banks. Again, i assume this was from the added nutrients being pumped into the river.
Despite the different conditions, fish bit OK. We managed to catch a combination of sand bass, black bass and a drum all on small swimbaits. Did see a few nice stripers landed by folks who were able to cast far enough towards the damn where the water was being released. After lunch we decided to go to the Hwy 16 bridge and look around. Fished for a few minutes at the bridge and landed a few more small sand bass. Overall it was a great day to be in the water although we didnt catch as many fish as we would have liked.

What were the folks using when catching the stripers towards the dam? Top water lures?

I think they were throwing big (2 oz) bucktail jigs with surf rods as far towards the dam as they could. We did not fish close enough to them to confirm first hand, but someone else we spoke said thats what they were throwing. I think I believe it because I have never seen anyone cast anything as far as those guys were.
