I've been fishing Fork since the late 80's, not all the time, but at least 5-6 times a year. There was a time that I considered myself a pretty good stick, but that was quite some time ago.. I took a hiatus(bout' 7 yrs) from bass fishing due to my then messed up personal life, but now for the last 3 yrs, I've been back in the game.. I fished the Mega Bass this Weekend and weighed 2 fish, neither netted me anything though. That is OK, problem is that I keep missing fish and having them come unbuttoned ( trigged brush hog, 15lb big game, 3/0 ewg) lost 4 on Sunday alone.. Also, I have no idea where to fish anymore, my old spots seem to be busted or no good now.. So, long story short, I guess I need to relearn the lake, go to trig 101 and learn to fish again.

Rant over..

I switched to a hook like these for Texas rigging and hook up ratio went up big time!

I learned about these on a guide trip in Florida.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

There are those that like Big Game line. But it's got a lot of stretch which IMO isn't good for bass fishing T-rigs, etc. hooksets.

I tried it many years ago and stopped using it due to the stretch.

Big Game was designed for saltwater fishing where the stretch compensates for surges by big fish.

From Berkley's web site regarding Big Game:
"EXTREME FIGHTING POWER FOR BIG GAME FISH"
"Shock resistant Controlled stretch adds fighting power"

Try something with less stretch and see if that helps.

Your hook could be to small or if it's those thick wire ones your rod might not be stiff enough. I used to throw the 3/0 ewg thick wire hooks on a fluke and had terrible hook ups. Switched to a thin wire 3/0 and hardly miss a bite now. I guess my rod just wouldn't drive that big hook in. And don't worry about that thin wire bending out, I've caught plenty of bigger fish pulling them out of grass and stuff and they've been ok.

fluorocarbon anywhere from 12 to 15 lb is what I go with. Some might go as far as 17, but that seems like a bit much.

15-20 flouro depending on the cover. I am flipping a lot of willow bushes with angry pre spawn bass right now and they don't seem to be line shy so I am using 20.

Lots of less stretchy choices for line.

A few that come to mind -

Trilene XT mono
P-Line copolymer or flourocarbon coated
Flourocarbon - choose & tie proper knot for flourocarbon - some knots may break easier w. flourocarbon if not tied properly
braid - maybe with a mono/flouro/P-Line leader and a Alberto knot to tie together

...and lots of others....

BTW Big Game 15lb. green is still my go to line for just about any moving bait application. That stuff is hard to break, it is cheap, and it gets the job done. I use fluorocarbon for Texas rig, Carolina rig leaders, jig flipping, and shaky head, the slower presentations when they have a chance to see the line.

I have almost stopped using EWG style hooks, just seem to miss more fish with these. U also need to set the hook straight up when using an EWG style. I prefer offset hooks. In heavy cover the trokar flipping hook are my choice.

Big Game and flouro had terrible line memory, line looked like the hair styles from the 80's 24 hours after putting it on. Flouro was suffix, was that the problem?

Use 15lb seguar invsx, 3/0 owner offset, and a palomar knot, wet the knot and pull slow make sure you dont burn the line and you shouldnt have a single problem.
