Well, we spent all day today on Coleto from around 8 am (before the fog lifted) to around 5 pm. Other than one dink LMB on a T-rig brush hog early in the morning, we caught nada. Rather than describe which lures and techniques we tried, it would be easier to list the things we did not try, like a drag net, or dynamite.

We could see fish on the finder near the bottom in the main channel, and some suspended five feet or so off the bottom. But we could not get them to sample any of our offerings.

A few others we spoke to were not having much luck either. Does anyone here have something happier to report, so I can live vicariously through your fishing prowess? :P

Our club fished down there two weekends ago. The lake came up a couple feet recently which messed up the water some. We still caught quite a few flipping shallow cover with creature baits and also caught a dew on a shakey head.

Yep the water was really stained everywhere we went. Very low visibility.

Honestly we did not try flipping so maybe that could have worked for us. I also did not try any jigging, and in fact a slow, bottom retrieve shakey head with a creature bait is the thing I probably do most, and it usually works. But I've been using the other basic options so far this year, like spinner baits, swim jigs, and bladed swim jigs in order to broaden my repertoire.

It's always the technique you are not using which is the correct one. Ha!

I'm certainly no expert...but when the water is really stained and low visibility...the Bass usually go from being chase oriented to ambush oriented because they can't see as well and hence you have a better chance to catch a few by flipping close to cover as opposed to using moving/reaction type lures like spinner-baits and swim-jigs.

I had it backwards... I was thinking the vibrations from the spoon(s)/blade would help them locate the bait.
