An Experiment - Do Tidal Pulls Influence Fresh Water Fishing?

Tides - the rise and fall of seal levels caused by the combined effects of gravitational forces exerted by the moon and the sun and the rotation of the earth.

And of course we only think about tides in relation to the ocean, or more specifically to the shore line. But these forces are exerted not just where there is ocean, but across the entire face of the planet. Even in Death Valley. It is just that without huge bodies of water it isn't a visible thing.

Salt water fishermen know that tides are important to fishing success. But what about fresh water fishing? Does the tidal influence on a river or lake or pond have an influence on the fish?

This is basically a twice per day event, one low and one high per roughly 24 hours.

Here's the experiment - go to the below website, enter your location, and then generally pay attention to where the tide will be when you go fishing. See if you can notice a difference coinciding with either low or high tide peak time.

Just for grins.

Hate to pick nits, but shouldn't it be 2 high and 2 low per day most days?

My experiences with tides on saltwater is that fishing is affected by the tidal currents and changes in those currents. Not sure that most freshwater bodies would experience enough tidal flows to matter.

But, I could easily be wrong. Will be interesting to see feedback on this.

There are tidal fisheries. But I think all fishing calendars with best times to fish, follow the tide schedule basically.

I have limited knowledge of tides, but when I go to that website and pull up my location it looks like one each per 24 hour cycle, give or take an hour.

I looked into solunar tables and tried to match it up with tide tables, didn't have much luck. I would imagine they are related somehow, but not sure.

Prolly more correct to say it follows the moon cycle for the region, and obviously we know what that does to the tides.

Depending on the area, you can have 1 high and 1 low or 2 high and 2 low.

I concur that the moon does have an effect on freshwater feeding periods to that degree. Best times for fresh water fish feeding is when the moon is directly overhead and underfoot. These are the major feeding periods, with minor feeding periods in the middle of each of these two positions.

To answer directly, it is not the 'tidal pulls' themselves but rather the moon/sun positions that effect freshwater. Saltwater fishing is best on tidal movements which are caused from the sun/moon positions.
