Went out yesterday and wade fished the south western bank. It looked perfect for spawning crappie. There is flooded vegetation out from the bank in 6-8fow and then all kinds of flooded brush right up on the bank in the 0-2fow range. Waded a long stretch of that bank, fishing both up shallow in the brush and out in the deeper brush. Only managed to catch 2 LMB and no crappie. I find it hard to believe that no crappie will or is spawning there so I'm gonna try it again. Don't know what the water temp was, hopefully they'll move in there when the water warms up mpre. It definitely looks like a crappie spawn haven so I will be going back.

Grapevine is one of the latest spawning lakes around. I will start looking in April.

Went north with my canoe. Caught 5 slabs in second laydown, then not a single bite for the next 1.5 hours. First time I fished in Grapevine.

I limited there today between 10-1. Fishing with jigs in 4 feet of water. Fish were about 1-2' deep. Guy beside me was doing the same on minnows. Out of around 40 we caught only one was under. Several big slabs caught by both of us. They were in that brush thick. All were caught in one spot

I'll be on the vine tomorrow morning. Going for eater channels but I guess taking a few minners and a 10ft pole won't hurt a thing.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

In years past, I've known crappie to spawn as shallow as 1' and as deep as 12'. If I were fishing that lake looking for spawning crappie, I get real serious about the first week of April. Just remember, not all fish spawn shallow. It has all to do with water clarity and light penetration.

Caught 16 this morning in Denton creek just off of the lake in 6 feet of water holding at about 3 feet. All on jigs and all very nice size. They were all in the 1.5-2 lb range, which is huge for me as I usually seem to just hit 10" or a little over. They were biting slower today than Monday but still doing ok. I'm going to try again Monday and see what this weather does to them. I have a few pics but not sure how to post from my phone. When I figure it out I'll put them up
