I have a Dobyns Champion Series 734C FH that I did really enjoy until today... I swung on a fish up at Lake Kiowa and bits and pieces flew all over the boat and into the lake... I was using 15 pound seaguar red label and a Strike King Rage craw... I never saw the fish but I now have a much much shorter rod, it's like between 18" - 24" long now. I figure with all the Dobyns guys on here, someone can help a brother out? I'm not trashing the rod, it's done me very well. I want another one. Does this go back to Dobyns or can I take to a retailer and swap it out?

I like my Dobyn's rods, but have broken 4 of them. Dobyn's and Shimano Crucials are the only rods I have broken and I've broken several of each. The Shimanos have always been a free replacement. Dobyn's has required me to pay a replacement fee every time. I won't be paying again. Once they break, they will go in the trash.

If your around Lake Fork, Lake Fork Resort will do a exchange with required fees or you can cut off section with rod info and mail it back to dobyns in manela envelope with required fees.

there's a $60 or $80 replacement fee. i got tired of paying replacement fees. last broken one, i just glued a tip on it and made it a short rod for my son. he loves it. i have a savvy with the handle cork falling off it now. had all the guides replaced a year ago. they make great short rods for frogging, or accuracy casting if you need something to do with them and dont want to pay a replacement fee. still a very nice and sensitive rod, just too fragile for me

Man, you guys must be a LOT harder on rods than I am. Had one break because of a defect and they replaced it free. The other broken one I had was because I was a dumb arse. Then again, you all probably catch a LOT more fish than I do... grin

So who in the D/FW area will replace the busted rod? Does APT carry them or will Cabelas do it?

Just got the same rod back from dobyns... $70 to replace champion with $20 shipping so $90 total... they were quick about it. Cut the 6" section with description and they are quick about getting it back. Add your phone number and they will call you to pay for it. Or like stated walk and have someone replace it
