If you were planning on a trip to Falcon this Summer, would you still go? Even though some "fishermen" were shot uo 50 miles below the Falcon dam.

Hell yes. And I'd probably fish the Mexican side of the lake more than the US. Wish I could leave today!

Yes. If you have never been then fish the US side and don't fish after dark. I would go on the Mexico side as well just like Fouz, but we have fished that area a lot and know what to watch out for. Don't let some of the guys on here tell you it is completely safe because it is not. Certain areas of the lake on the Mexico side I never fish. Other areas I make sure I'm not the only boat within site fishing. If I see a suspicious boat approaching, which has happened a few times, I pull up the trolling motor quickly and get out. Just my 2 cents.

horseplaydvm pretty much hit the nail on the head. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.

Grass is always greener on the other side. That's why I fish the Mexican side every time there. I'm going to continue until they build that wall! :-)

Only thing I encountered on the Mexican side was gill nets, the bass fishing was better for me overthere. Never felt like I was in danger by anymeans.

Absolutely.

I've been there quite a bit the past few months and the only thing I saw that might've been a little shady was on an island in the mouth of the Salinias (feeder river on Mexican side by the dam). All of the commercial fishermen have the same model boats, but on the northwest side of this island, there were some dudes hanging out and the boats they had beached on the island were old bass boats from around the 80s, so that looked a little out of place. But I hooked into something on my crank bait right in front of them and as I was "fighting" it, they came out to watch and when I pulled in a feed sack, they just laughed and never did anything to make me think they wanted to do bad stuff to me. Plus, the Border Patrol blimp mid-lake would have a good view of that side of the island, so they might not've been up to anything.

But just use common sense and you'll be fine.

The best advice I can give anyone fishing Falcon is to get a 5hr Energy for the trip back.... That. Drive. Sucks.

Would not hesitate to go. In fact I hope to make a trip before too long. Never felt unsafe anywhere on Falcon. I will say that I pay attention to fishing while I am on the water, be careful not to get tangled up in nets when on the Mexican side and I am off the water by dark. Fished it quite often until a couple of years ago when I moved from San Antonio to Cedar Creek. If you have any concerns about what is happening on the lake or in that area, check with Falcon Tackle.

Texasbassdude if it was a white Nitro with no trolling motor he was reported to be charging people to fish in Salinias. He was also reported to be the person who killed the fisherman. You may have been really lucky that day.

Scariest thing I've seen on Falcon this year was a netter throwing a DD 22 one day and dragging a plastic worm a few days later.... Man if those guys figure out they can catch just as many on a rod and reel as their nets they may be working double-time.

Yep had a trip planned for Falcon for months, and the week before I went the guy got killed on the jet ski. Went anyway, had a great time and never saw anything on the Mexican side except a few gill netters working their nets. I never believed the story the girl told about the whole incident from the beginning nobody goes to Falcon to jet ski. Maybe one day we'll get the real story.
Go, have fun, and don't think twice about some cartel member shooting at you, that's the last thing they want is more attention.

Just returned taking the boys to Falcon for Spring break. Spent 4 days fishing the Texas side and had a blast. No issues what so ever.
