Been fishing the creeks lately and the early spring time bite is GREAT! Bluegill,Longear,Greens,Bass,and Rios are getting active. Fish are holding close to the banks next to brush piles in shallow water. All fish were caught on worms using both float and bottom techniques. Have not seen any fish on nest yet but some of the Bluegills were urinating after the catch and a few of them looked like they were carrying eggs. The creeks are in GREAT shape with good current. Getting in on some super springtime ultralight action! It just don't get any better!

Side note. Not very many spring breakers would want to be at some of the places I fish.

Thanks Jim for the reply. Yes Sir the Spring Breaks and Summer time vacations seem to bring out a lot of "crazies". Sometimes some bad things happen during these times. I just pick a nice quite shaded bank spot on a nice flowing creek out in the middle of know where !

Great stuff Chuck. I have a day off on the 31st. Looks like 10 days of 80 degree weather between now and then. I bet that little Creek of Gold will be fishing great. Unless the rains mess it up.

Thanks for the replies Willie and Jamie. Willie: The second photo is a Rio Grande Cichlid. Great fighters and good eating. I usually throw the Rios back. There is all sorts of information about them on the Texas Parks&Wildlife Web Site. Jamie: The creeks are on fire right now and are in GREAT shape. Been catching some super nice Bluegill and Rios. Also caught a HUGE Hybrid! It could also be a possible Longear. Sent a photo of the fish to Parks&Wildlife for I.D. and possible record. Give me a shout and we will do some SERIOUS fishing.

Nice variety of fish Chuck. I fished a local creek last week and saw sunnies on nest. The Bluegill on Mcqueeney are also fixing to spawn. What is your take on the spawn?

Curtis: The sunfish spawn is on in most water bodies. Seeing a lot of fish on nest and the Bluegill I have been catching are FAT with eggs!


Side Note: Been seeing a lot of Rios on the move. It will not be long until a lot of them will be on nest!
