So I took the neighbor kid fishing with me yesterday nothing serious just seein what was off the dock. Well he had no patience . Get excited and just started reeling in with out setting the hook. Throwing his bait off the usual lol . And I went from me out there fishing to wanting him to catch a fish and it was so difficult to watch . I was more frustrated for him than he was I could have done it all for him but that's not fishing to me . I plan to keep taking him out and working with him . Any advice on the subject is greatly I know there's some dads and grandpas out there that have delt with this my daughter does the same but she's younger so I give her a bit more slack lol

Start off slow. Take him to a perch pond or something. Don't be afraid to let him make mistakes. I'm taking my twin 3 year olds out for their first fishing trip today. That should be interesting.

Oh wow that should be very interesting almost YouTube worthy I took my little girl out around the same age she kept swinging the pole around after if cast it like she was a Jedi in Star Wars she would get all tangled up and I'd say what are you doing girl she would respond " I'm practicing casting daddy haha now the issue with her is getting her to sit still and wait I figure that will come in time

with my 7 year old , I have him count to a set number before reeling it back in . It slows down the constant cast . Has helped with his crappie fishing as well.
Play eye spy with him, "can not reel in it till you find the color". make it a fun game and they will leave the hook alone for longer.

Mine usually start wanting to go home about the time I get bait and fast out my lines. They like "catching" but not really "fishing". If you him that tuned in I think you are doing well.

Set an extra rod out that's "his" as well. He "plays" with the one in his hand but when the drag starts singin' on the other rod, let him grab it.
At least that's what I did.....

My grandfather taught me fishing and he taught my dad to fish difference was I loved fishing and my dad hated it.My dad was made to fish and got his tail kicked constantly and I well grandsons do no wrong.Moral of the story when enough is enough leave on a positive note and keep trying.
