Today while fishing running creek in lake fork, we heard gun shots (.22 assuming). As we kept creeping the bank down the bend, we heard a shot or 2 go over us. We yelled loudly "hey" to alert them were there. Another goes above us, so we rev the egine once in hope they hear us. A pause for a min and then a much louder gun shot. We were worried and were packing up when a bullet hits the water 10 feet behind the boat and then another 30 or more behind us in the water. I say " those hit behind the boat" my friend started to pull up the trolling motor when one flew right near me or over me, clear as day. I ducked for the what ever time and said we gotta go. We turned around and no more shots. Two other boats said the same thing happened to them, this was 2 hours later (we figured the shooter would of left sooner or later so we went back). One said they heard no shots till one went right over them. Be careful out there.

As already been stated above, the Game Warden and Sheriff's Department both need to be contacted and a report filed. Law Enforcement can then make the extra patrols in the area. Also if there were other reports made and the situation continues law enforcement can take more aggressive tactics. Glad no one was hurt! thumb

Shooting to keep people off "your" spots?

I am sure they tapped it and are going to post it on You Tube for their little "Googan Squad"

Kids need to be careful if that is what it was. May run in to a fisherman with a CHL and may not hesitate to shoot back if bullets are buzzing overhead or nearby hitting the water. Just sayin.

Need to be cautious there. If the shots were accidental coming from a sourse unaware of where his shots are going, shooting back would be wrong.

I would think someone else found some beds and didn't want anyone on them. Was fishing in Magee the other day and heard a lot of gun fire. Nothing around us but you could tell it was large caliber. Probably in 223.

Hopefully someone called a GW or law enforcement. The shooter needs to be educated.

We were up there on Saturday and heard gunshots VERY Close to us. No bullets hitting the water, but really scary. We could not idle out of there fast enough. We had at least 10 shots. Is it duck hunting season or something?

After reading your story it took approximately 9+ shots to get you to leave, someone needs to learn how to shoot

.223 is a small caliber round...50 cal is a large caliber...

Perhaps someone is protecting "their bass"...personally, I am not interested in getting into a gun fight over a fishing hole...that is the very definition of dumb...

I suspect it was probably someone protecting their illegal activity from detection...just be glad they were not serious about harming you and were just warning you to leave.

Gunshots happen with great frequency in the country, seldom any reason to become alarmed...personally, i grew up far east texas...we only got concerned if the bullets zipped within 6 inches of our ears...thats when we knew they meant business, and it was time for us to leave.

Chl and pistols normally aren't very effective against shooters with rifles that you cant see...Remember the show the Rifleman?

Sometimes ppl are just target practicing in your directing and they have ear plugs in so when you yell, honk or shoot back they just keep shooting away!

I thought it might be kids because it was at the end of the local schools spring break. And over the years I have never heard of anything like that in that area before.

Could be visiting kids or local kids. I doubt adults would be that dumb to do that in an area where the game wardens are known to frequent.

Even if it was accidental, someone needs education on knowing where bullets are going when they shoot. Any idiot around Lake Fork knows that shooting toward the water this time of year isn't smart shooting. I myself don't believe it was accidental.

On that matter, we both agree...bullet safety while shooting is most important...even if intentional, the shooter needs to know what is behind his intended target!
