Haven't been myself much this "winter" but been seeing lots of cats and a few reds caught at calaveras on the app fishbrain. Let us know how you do.

Neither. Have always had a tough time on both lakes.

Power plant lakes, I wouldn't eat them. I ate a red from Cali and taste of coal was horrible. One bite and done. take a look east. Anywhere on the Guadalupe in that area has good catfish.

I've ate plenty of catfish and reds from Calaveras and they tasted fine. The two coves past the damn used to be loaded with cats and an occasional red. Usually set up in around 10ft of water. Never got skunked at Calaveras. Braunig is a different story.

Wow,big time traveler, you live in Tarrant county (300miles)and know what the fish taste like down here? I'm sure people eat them, they also buy buy catfish nuggets to fry. Oh I can't eat belly meat,so maybe just my taste buds. Disclaimer:we went in July when you could still fish the crappie wall. Water was over 99deg because my fishfinder don't go past 99. Seen dead plecco catfish floating around the lake, smelly dark dark thick green water. Just stunk! It maybe fine now, just wish someone was honest when I asked for info. It was shocking, and we aren't "too gooders" but we won't go back.

I've fished the reds several times this year on Calaveras and limited out both times. Nothing wrong with the taste of the reds!

Calm down a little. I live in McKinney, TX (Collin County 325 miles), but I think I may have much more experience on this thread than most. I fished both lakes from 1987 - 2000 religiously. I lived just a couple miles away from each. I will also add that I was a park ranger for SARA for 3 years. Had access to all the stocking information, guide's catches, etc. I personally hold the record for largest Corvina (live tilapia for bait) ever caught from those lakes which will now never be broken. Fact is, the fish caught from these two power plant lakes does taste different. Bad? Matter of opinion. Can't compare the taste of a freshwater red to a saltwater. But you eat a crappie or bass from the power plant lake then eat one from Canyon Lake, you can/will taste the difference.

Ive spent my time on those lakes. Your gave your opinion then I gave mine. No need to wad your panties up.
