Some time back i read where you can use Dawn dish soap and salt for spraying weeds but i cant locate the post. I forgot the measurements of each and maybe an ingredient too.

One gallon of 10 % vinegar (5 works but less effective).
One cup Epsom salts . Regular salt will poison the soil .
1/2 cup of Dawn , Ivory , whatever . It helps the mixture stick to the plant .

It'll kill most anything you spray it on . Don't broadcast spray the yard . Use a smaller hand sprayer to target the specific plants you want gone .

I had a problem with sandburrs years ago . I learned to identify the young plants and spot-treated them . I had a few years with brown patches in my yard but I finally got rid of 'em .

I use a similar recipe as Siberman. Gallon 10% vinegar, 3-4 ounces of orange oil and a good squeeze of soap. I prefer to spray during the hottest part of the day and in direct sunlight.

+1 . I don't know all the technical terms but the leaves are busy inhaling (CO2) during the day and exhaling at night .

1 question, why is this better than Round Up?

There are multiple reports coming out that Glyphosate (roundup) doesn't breakdown and is much more toxic than Monsanto has always clamed. It's being linked to multiple cancers, autism, ect.. Someone told me the other day that Neil Sperry has even stopped recommending it.

Most commercial lawn and landscape, farmers ect.. with commercial chemical licenses will tell you that there are chemicals that should not be available at a retail level. Glyphosate and Atrazine are the 2 most I hear. They do work great, but we have 10's of millions of people over using them and/or not using them correctly.

Round Up works really well but you might want to do a search about its alleged carcinogens (check BING for the recent ruling in California.)

When RU was introduced it was touted as a non-systemic (doesn't stay in the soil) herbicide . It may not stay in the soil but there appear to be concerns about veggies grown in areas treated with it .

Vinegar is highly acidic but it's organic . I'll take that over Monsanto products any day .

Guess I went a bit overboard . If it's just an urban yard : use RU . If you plan on growing food : use the vinegar .

Where do I get 10% vinegar?

Most grocery stores carry a 9% for about $2 a gallon. That's what I use.

I got it from lowes last season , in the garden section.
