Hey Y'all,
New to the fishing area, no kayak at the moment, i live on the north tip of Lake Travis, looking for decent bank fishing within an hour or so, willing to travel to Bastrop area. I have lots of access to the Colorado, but "lakes" are fine to. Would like to get into some catfsih, but im not too picky, especially this time of year! Not looking for your secret spot, just areas in general. Love fishing below dams if that helps at all. Hope to hear from y'all! Also if you know of any active forums to point me towards that would be cool also.

I've got the same question to. I was planning just walking or even renting a yak and hitting lady bird lake. I've heard a good place to start is around Austin high school.

I've seen big fish pulled out of Lady Bird Lake on kayaks.

Austinbassfishing.com is a good forum, doesn't only focus on bass but covers all species.

I lived in austin for a couple of years and generally had the most success at tailraces, specifically under Mansfield Dam. It's pretty scenic, not to mention the bass fishing there is rather good especially when they are releasing water. There are some catfish from what I hear, but quite a lot of freshwater drum. You can tell the drum are passing through when you start to hear croaking under sunset in the spring. Minnows works great for bass and drum, crayfish especially for drum. I'd imagine cut bait should be fine for catfish.

The boathouses around lake travis should produce well for catfish, have caught a decent number but didn't have the right equipment for the big cats.

Have caught catfish at night along the pedernales river.

Really though catfish are mud fish you should find a new species :P
