So I have been really enjoying Tenkara fishing for years now. Naturally I pushed the envelope on how large a fish my Tenkara rod can handle. I have caught some surprisingly large fish on the Tenkara rods and 4lbs tippet., Tenkarabum.com started carrying fixed line rods out of Japan designed for carp and I could not help but try one. I got the Nissin Kyogi 18 and it was game on! The rod is designed to handle 4x-0x line. Max is about 12-13lbs test. I rigged up 12lbs test to a swivel , finishing it off with 8lbs test to allow a breaking point just in case. Went to a favorite "quick fish" hole with my son. Used a pack bait as chum and corn on a size 10 hook. We both caught our first big carp today on a fixed line rod! Wow! Really fun. Mine went 16.4lbs and my sons was 15.2lbs. The simplicity of a rod, line, and fish really makes you one with the battle.

Nice fish bet the fight was awesome on the impervised canepole I've been seeing more and more people using tenkara one day I might give it a try congratulations to you and your son
