Beautiful day on the lake today until the rains hit about 5 PM. I got out from 11:30 AM until 4:45 PM, enjoyed the weather and caught 71 fish: 60 whites, 9 keeper yellow bass to 13 inches and 2 short hybrids. Today I caught fish at Campbell's Hump in 17 fow, Old Pond Dam (not on map) in 17 fow, south edge Spillway Hump in 16 fow and the Rock Pile in 17 fow. I left still catching em at all but the Old Pond Dam to go check out other spots. Places I looked but didn't see fish today included Saint Annes Drop-off, Long Ridge, Key Ranch Drop-off, 3-Jug Hump, Merimac Point and Enchanted Isle Ridge. Water temp was up to 64.5 degrees. All fish caught on #4 silver Mepps Aglia.

They are usually larger 13"-16" whites that have red or scratched up bellies with no bulge. Nice graph shots of spring time whites. They are easy to miss, especially on rough water days.

Have a couple more reports:

Sat 3/11: Launched from my dock and cruised all the way up to Twin Creeks area, where friend Leroy lives. Picked him up about 1 PM and headed farther north to Sunken Island (not on my map). We found fish readily on the west edge, NW edge and east edge of the island and caught 125 in 2 hrs and 20 min. At each spot it was a fish on almost every cast til they moved off. We left still catching when the rains came. All caught on #4 silver Mepps Aglia in depths of 8 to 16 fow.

Tues 3/14: Went out from 2:15 to 4:15 PM and found Big Crappie guide on Saint Annes Point as well as John and LuAnne, who were spot-locked over Saint Annes East and catching what looked like 10 to 12 inch whites. Said they had caught a legal hybrid there also. So, I moved on and checked Swing-set Hump, Flagpole Point and Saint Annes Drop-off but no fish. Headed to dam area and found fish at Campbell's Hump and Dam Ridge. Ended up with 53: 52 whites and a 13 inch yellow bass. Left still catching fish at Dam Ridge. Whites averaged 12 inches with several 11 inch fish and several 13 to 15 inch fish. Still using #4 Mepps but fish were in 21 fow.

Awesome Reports Dennis! Especially useful to young anglers like myself who are lucky if we can even find the boat ramp

Dennis- Do you think they are mostly out of the creeks now? Sounds like you're doing really well on main lake structure.

Don't know about the creeks, but there are plenty of whites in the lake. Some never go up the creeks but spawn in the lake.

My take on this years spawn.
High temps, full moon, plus lack of rain equaling no current have kept them from going up creeks to spawn. They need to spawn now and are bunching up on shallower wind swept points or humps next to deep water to spawn. That is why the large schools have been found in same general area for 10 or so days and windy days are excellent catching.

Went out yesterday (Sat 3/25) on a scouting run and ended up with 86 fish: 80 whites, a 19 inch hybrid, 2 short hybrids and 3 keeper sized yellow bass. Places where I caught fish: Key Ranch North, Old Pond Dam (not on map), 3-Jug Hump, Merimac Point, Dam Drop-off and Dam Ridge. At Dam Ridge and 3-Jug Hump the fish were on the shallowest part - 20 fow. At the other spots fish were in 12 to 16 fow.

Ran into Lucky and Lisa in a very nice, new center console rig near Dam Drop-off. Was able to put them on fish at Dam Drop-ff. They were catching a few with slabs. After catching one on almost every cast, I trolled over and gave them a couple of Mepps #4's. Left them catching fish and went on over to Dam Ridge, where I caught the hybrid. The whites were bigger on average there - about 13 inch average.

Places I didn't find fish included: Key Ranch Drop-off, Long Ridge, Saint Annes point West (friend Paul and his son-in-law were catching fish at Saint Annes point East), the south edge of Crappie Island Flats and Campbell's Hump.

All fish caught on #4 Mepps dragging it slowly to the side along the bottom 2 to 3 turns of my 7:1 reel.

Water temp was 66 degrees.

Dennis, it was a pleasure meeting you after reading your reports for years. I have been telling Lisa about you and wondering if we would ever cross paths. On our second time on the lake, there you were!

Thanks for sharing your fish and your Mepps. As I said, we have been on Tawakoni for many years and we were ready for a new lake. We're loving it so far!

Report for Tuesday Mar 28: Checked out Clear Creek spots and caught 70 fish: Saint Annes Point East, Swing-set Hump and 60 Acre Hump all holding lots of fish - mostly 10 to 13 inch white bass. Also caught a few at Flag Pole Point. Still using #4 Mepps dragging medium slow along the bottom 3 turns of the reel.
