Myself and Clayton aka Wildman of the navidad" fished on the Guadalupe River and the carp bite was "ON FIRE"! The sky was overcast and there was a nice slight breeze. The current was running good. Clayton was using corn as bait. He also chummed the water with a special mix. We caught a total of 10 very nice carp including Clayton's Pending Catch&Release Record Common Carp which was 33.50" in length. I caught a super nice carp using my ultra light. The reel was spooled with six pound test line with a size six brim hook. I use the rig to catch sunfish. The carp just about spooled my reel and I really had to adjust my drag a lot during the 20 minute fight. I had to let the fish fight out and was hoping the fish would not "burn up"my drag. I was able to land the fish. We had two get offs and one of the get offs pulled drag for over two minutes. The fish broke off at the leader. What ever it was it had to be HUGE! We also caught several nice Channel Catfish in the three to five pound range. Common Carp are GREAT FISH and SUPER FIGHTERS! All the carp were released to fight again. The catfish were released to the frying pan. After a day of AWESOME fishing we had a great late lunch at the El Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant located in New Braunfels. Catching some SUPER fish with a good friend. It just don't get any better!

Dang nice fish guys!! I sure do miss my home on Canyon Lake. Lots of good memories fishing the Guadalupe!!

A flat about10-14fow as far as chum just a pack bait -2-3eggs corn meal jellow powder oatmeal and corn and anything else you want to throw in flax seeds bird seed you can gocrazy with it I just use corn on a hair rig with a splitshot3-5 inches above the hook and ball a bunch of packbait around the splitshot an toss ict out the bait ball will chum for you

Thanks for the information Clayton and Chuck! I have caught a couple of carp this past year on my spinning gear fishing docks for sunnies. Would love to catch one on the fly and in my yak. Any advice?




Side Note: The Carp have put out an ALERT on Banker's posse warning carp that the posse is focusing on them. The sunfish followed with a statement saying "better you carp than us"!

I don't know much about carp on the fly but my brother used to catchem on what he called ziggbugs floating little black ball of foam on like a 16 hook

Thanks Wildman of the navidad. I have some sinking flies that I think would work. Will be giving it a try this year for sure! Getting a Carp on the fly is on my bucket list!
