I have a tourney in over a month on Lake Tyler.

What general info can you give me? Running, east better than west, shallow or deep, brush piles to be found?

What does it usually take to win a 5 fish tourney?

Gonna be practicing over spring break.

In terms of running, the lakes are clear and running is easy on either lake. You can catch fish on either lake. Given your time frame, I'd focus on fishing the large area of shallow water flats on the west bank south of the power lines and first buoys (and just north of the houses) on LTE and then running a bit farther south to the two coves along the east bank of LTE above the bridge coves. I live along the shore of the south bridge cove in LTE and I put out a lot of brush off my dock and gladly share it with anyone. It can be found if you get here early as it is illuminated at night with a set of Green Monster lights. On Old Lake Tyler I've done well in late March and April along the boathouses around the spillway cove. And I've also done well in some of the coves on the west side near concession 1 and just north of there. Not sure about weights but 20 lb. stringers are caught.
