Did lower ball joints on my 2001. There is a real good write up on the internet with good pics. I printed it out and filed in my maint binder. Not hard but you will need rather large socket an rent a ball joint press. I put joints with grease fittins on mine. OEMs on these trucks are [censored]. Shop told me I was lucky to make it to 40k. Ford service mgr said 25k. I want to say it was about a 4 hour job start to finish with a few brews. Never did anything else on that truck cause I dumped with 92k on odo. I could not handle repairs bills any longer. When you tap out the upper put the castle nut over the stud to protect threads. Not sure if write up mentions that

Ignor 99% of what SJ has to say about fords.

Moog parts are highly recommended, but you pay for them. If you take pride in the truck you might consider them. If your truck is a tool to used keep in mind how long the factory ones lasted and how much longer you will use it and that factory replacements or whatever the parts house has will be 1/2 the cost of Moog etc.

I agree with what redchevy has to say about Moogs. He will tell you that I just had a lemon. Well truth is they built a lot of lemons in that era.

MOOG is the best out there for replacement suspension that's not specifically designed for racing or off road.

Sure did, I had a 97 F150 with 350,000 miles and never touched the front end. Just scheduled maint. that my mechanic did. It was still going strong when I got my needs and wants mixed up...

I had my 04' Ball Joints done long ago. Ford put in some cheap a55 parts and knew it. Firestone worked on mine...no problems since. Get a Life Time Alignment while your at it if you don't do it yourself.
