Curious to see what cautionary signs folks watch for on water temp / cooling systems for Pro XS motors. WOT water pressure runs 16+, but wondering what other signs might be seen to indicate thermostats being fouled open. I don't have a smart gauge package on my motor and have probably read too much on other forums about how often folks are having issues with T-stats getting junk in them and hanging open. My water stream at the back of the motor starts almost immediately and wondering if that should take a few minutes to start. I want to make sure the motor is up to temperature before getting on plane and pushing the motor too hard.

Starting with 2003 model year a new fault code "THERMOSTAT FAULT" was added to the PCM fault history. When the engine is below 1100 RPM and the engine temperature remains below 42C ( 108F) for longer then 480 seconds (8 minutes), a thermostat fault will be recorded in the PCM fault history and will give the operator a single warning horn. The reason for the added fault code is because a cold running engine may cause spark plug fouling. In most cases this fault code is caused by a thermostat being held open by debris......Used in special applications where debris is plugging the low water pick‑ups in the nose of the gear case. But this will also limit the amount of cooling water flow. Do not use this kit if the side water pick‑ups are out of the water when the boat is on plain. Part # 895764A01.....OPTI

Thanks OPTI! I was starting to worry that my motor might not be reaching temp before taking off.

That's an awfully expensive motor to trust to a warning horn. Invest in a SmartCraft monitoring system and KNOW what your temp is. Cold seize is known to be an issue with Optimax motors.
I liken this scenario to the old Fram oil filter commercial, "You can pay me a little now, or a lot later"
