A real man would never have a CHL to begin with. Just take your gun where ever you want, you don't need no government permission. If you get stopped by a cop, just get out your cell phone and pocket constitution and everything will be OK.

It is sounding like Oregon is the stickler.

I didn't realize Texas allowed under 21 to have a carry license. Is the age 18 here? Only for active duty military.

Why does Texas or other states have to recognize and allow and out of state driver to use their Driver Licenses here.
But you can't use your CHL or LTC there.
California would be a prime example...........

After checking up on this I have found that Oregon and Washington State have pending Law Suits over carry. In Oregon your not allowed to carry in a public place and your vehicle is considered to be a public place. To get an Oregon permit is extremely difficult requiring 2 separate gun safety courses and County Sheriffs signed authorization. I have been told to tell an officer that I have a carry license first thing if I am stopped. I have found that this is not correct and can cause an officer to become agitated. I think I will still tell any officer if stopped. A locked away unloaded firearm is a useless piece of metal.

In June I will be driving to my daughter's wedding in Vermont and then watching the grandkids in Massachusetts for the honeymoon so I have been researching the same topic. The easy part is carrying while driving, the hard part is to remain legal when stopping and getting out of the truck such as overnight stays or even getting gas/food.
In my truck I have a secured lock box to store my weapon and another secured lock box for the ammo so for most of the trip especially in the northeast I will not have to not worry about whether I am legal or not but still have limited access to my weapon.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The problem with that is, what's legal in Texas, may be a state felony in another. A Oregon state felony conviction will prevent you from owning weapons in Texas.

A Oregon state felony conviction will prevent you from owning weapons in Texas. After Five Years in Residence ONLY Under Texas state law a convicted felon may possess a firearm in the residence, in which he lives, once five years have elapsed from the date his sentence was discharged. This means the later of release from prison or parole. This is not true under federal law. So, while a convicted felony could lawfully possess a firearm in these very limited circumstance under state law, he could possibly be charged and convicted under federal law, even though current federal policy is to defer to state law on this issue

I would suggest, if you have time, that you contact the Attorney General's office in each state that you plan to visit, and request confirmation of reciprocity and a link to the laws covering that state (while in that state you are subject to their laws). Retain a copy of those communications and take it on the trip. Most cops on the street won't have a clue which states honor which other states' carry licenses, and they have no handy reference to look it up on the spot. The websites most people use are not legal documents and are not always current. A communication from the AG's office would show that the license is indeed honored, and that you are making an effort to comply with the law.
