Anybody have experience fishing the saltwater canals of Florida? I'm going to be staying at a place that has access to a saltwater canal in Cape Coral, Florida.
Is it worth fishing? Can I expect to catch anything decent? What kind of bait should I use?
Any tips or information will be greatly appreciated.

I used to live in Cape Coral off Santa Barbara and Midpoint on a canal. Each canal can be a little different. Farther in away from the river or the IC, you get into some brackish water and smaller fish such as sail cats, mullet, and occasionally pompano. If you are in the canals directly off open water, you can catch shark, pompano, snook, reds and other s that are chasing bait into the canals to pen it. Live shrimp are among the best baits fished on a jig head with a circle hook.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to see how far off the river this house is.
