Ok I know this topic has come up many times but now I'm asking again. What has worked best for you. According to the manual the Optimax needs 1000 cold cranking amps. I bought the Sears Platinum 1 (group 31) based on all the good reviews it got but mine now is on the blink and still under warranty. I am thinking about a Deka battery if I can find someone locally that sells them, but I'm open to other suggestions.

If you get out to Fork, I sell Deka.

Academy carries has a big exide with the required 1000 cold cranking amps, they usually only have 1 or 2 in stock though.

I'm curious about this battery too, about to get my first optimax. That battery has great cranking amps, reserve minutes, warranty, and price. Has anyone actually used this battery? My only concern would be does it take the rough jarring of a boat well, because isn't that technically an automotive battery?

The Deka AGM is available at Service Marine in Emory. I've only had this battery 66 months so can't give any info on how long it will last. Replaced 4 year old Cabelas AGM. Love the AGM versus the EverStarts I had been buying. Only get 18-24 months out of the EverStarts (I'm not good at adding water).

It is a commercial battery normally used in trucks and diesel motor homes . The posts are larger and my existing cable ends would not fit. Found this out after installation . Really fun dropping these big batts in only to pull them right back out. I got the big Duracell agm at SAMs instead. Good luck JD

If you go the commercial route make sure you get some nuts for the posts. They usually do not come with them.

Had a smaller class size of those X2 AGM, d@mn thing died a few months right out of free replacement warranty, cheaper to just run the evertarts from walmart IMO.

I hope you have good luck with the commercial battery. Skeeter puts one in all their boats and they are junk. Won't handle all the electronics and aerators. It doesn't have 1000 MCA. But, the 29 Series, EverStart Maxx, has 845 MCA. It powers everything without any issues. 24 month free replacement. I just had one go out after 21 months and they replaced it free of charge.
