Thanks Pearow, this one took about an hour and a half including the time for the fingernail polish on the head.

Or, in more practical terms, about the same amount of time it would have taken to restock my warmwater fly boxes that I fish out of. I'll probably regret not refilling those flies...

Learned some new techniques from Dutch. I'm still making mistakes, but I'm still having fun. laugh

So, here's the latest attempt at a Hairwing Green Highlander:

Rex, you might think about making a calendar with a fly pic on each month. Sell advertising on the bottom. Chi-chang!!! Those creations of yours are really beautiful; too pretty to waste on a fish!!!-p-

Looks perfectly fine to me. Unlike Gene, I say use them. I bet the gills would tear them up. Any throw backs you want to send my way? LOL

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it.

I've always liked the look of this style of fly. So, I had to try making one and I'm having fun with them. smile I will add that learning these techniques has helped my regular fly tying more that anything else I have done. I'm a whole lot faster at tying my usual fishing patterns than I was before.

Here's the latest in my journey to learn this style of tying. (If I tied more often, I might get there quicker. laugh )

I think I may have learned more about material choice and selection than anything else tying these flies. In today's example, a grizzly saddle was a poor choice for the body hackle. A softer, webby'er feather would have worked better.

I was feeling patriotic and experimented with the colors. I think I'll stick with established patterns for a while...

Here's a Red, White, and Blue Hairwing Fly:

I wasn't very happy with yesterday's fly. So, I made a few changes and tried again. I still have a long way to go, but I like this one better. laugh

Yep, but they'll need a big mouth, it's a size 4 hook. laugh

These flies actually have a good action in the water. They sink level and slowly. I think they would be a killer on bass during spawn. laugh
