Decided to spool up my ultra lite rods with fresh 2 lb Berkley Xl-smooth casting after watching 1Rod1Reel's video using it, I really just wanted to see what i could land on it.

I grew up fishing the same size rod i use in this video with 4 lb line and caught all sorts of big fish in freshwater and saltwater even. i have actually fished 2 lb line before, im not going to lie though half way through this fight i was wondering what the heck i got myself into.

the current IGFA line class record for common carp is 31 pounds 3 ounces more than likely i just bested that by a few pounds.

no, no official weight gonna have to wait for next time, i have a plan for how to get an igfa certified scale out there.
I have to beat 31 pound 3 onces for commons and 39 pounds for grass carp i believe

Mixed emotions due to the possibility of the 2lb test line breaking with the hook stuck in the Carp's mouth, but wow... I have to give credit where credit is due. That's some good angling skills, congrats!

One thing that you need to check on is the ACTUAL breaking strength of Triline XL at the 2 lb weight. The IGFA determines the line class as the ACTUAL breaking strength of the 5 meters of line immediately before the hook or double line leading to the hook. It would be a shame to work so hard only to find out that your "2 lb" line was actually closer to 4 lb breaking strength. Tests have indicated that the line "weight" of fishing lines is mostly just a reference number rather than an actual indication of its breaking point. For example the biggest difference between Triline XL and Triline XT is that XT has a larger diameter and a higher breaking point in the same line weight. Nearly all monofilament lines have their diameter on the line spool or box.

The Trinity River Salmon up here don't get that big usually.

that fish is maybe low 20s at most looks about 18lbs
