I live in District 14. The other day I sent an on line message to his office ( Hon.Randy Weber) in regards to assisting us in getting a few gas stations in our area to provide us with 87 Octane Ethanol Free Gasoline. As of now, we have none. The closest I can find is in Lake Jackson...Bucees...Oyster Creek Drive.

All other nearby stations carry 90% Plus Octane E-Free Gas, which will hurt our Outboard engines by making them run too hot.NOT GOOD. I say again, we NEED access to 87% Octane E-Free Gas. This mess has been hurting our OB engines for a long while now. This has to STOP. As of now I have not heard a reply from his Office. When I do, I will pass on what he said. Take a few minutes and drop him a message. If you live in a different District along the Coast, and are in our predicament, drop your Rep a line. Thanx

Wrote mine years ago. I need 93 octane ethanol free. You are fighting several large lobby groups including producers and corn farmers. No need for ethanol any more with plenty of oil but getting rid of it will probably never happen.

There was never a need for it but good luck trying to get rid of it. Once the camel gets his nose in the tent it's hard to get rid of him.

He'll never see it. Their staff people screen the thousands od emails they get and the lettering is worn off of their delete keys. I don't even bother to write to mine in Austin because I can't afford a "campaign contribution".

FWIW the higher the octane the cooler and slower the gas burns.
High compression engines use higher octane or more timing advance. Lower octane requires slower timing and lower compression. Ask anybody that dyno tunes engines for a living.
90 to 93 octane will not hurt an engine designed for 87. The engine just won't make as much power since the fuel won't burn as fast or as hot. The only way it would run too hot is if it was running too lean and that would mean re-jetting the carbs or creating a new custom fuel map if it's an EFI motor.

Use a marine fuel stabilizer such as Sta-Bil Marine to treat the ethanol in gas. Doubt we'll ever see ethanol free gas become widely available again.

Write your Motor manufacturer and ask them to start building a motor that is ethanol friendly. They are the ones who we should be chastising.

The problem now is ethanol free gas is generally more expensive than non ethanol.
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought all air fields and marinas were allowed to have a non ethanol pump so long as it was for on the water boats.

If you can't get them to voluntarily put one up I don't think a politician can.

The 90% gas you're talking about is called Rec90. Its popular in boats, especially 4 strokes so I would guess its safe for your motor although it is more expensive.

There is one marina on Lake Travis that sells non-ethanol gas. $4.50/gal. Ouch! Everything on Lake Travis is a money grab.

Aviation gasoline (AvGas) is 100 octane Low-Lead. Can't be used in road vehicles because highway taxes aren't in the fuel charges. But vehicles used off-road OK. But as mentioned AvGas is pricy.

But I seem to recall reading somewhere that it might not be good idea to run high octane gas because the additive packages in it might scour the 2-cycle oil needed for lubrication from cylinder walls, etc.

Use what octane your engine manufacturer recommends and add marine fuel stabilizer. I've run nothing but 87 octane unleaded with fuel stabilizer in my '89 Yamaha 150 ProV since it was new with no problems.

Depending on your zip code where you buy gas there is no telling what you are getting.
Different parts of the country sell different blends depending on the time of year.
We are at the mercy of the gubmint and EPA unfortunately. Been this way for a long long time.

Best thing we can do is use the fuel stabilzer additives that are available and then run the snot out of them motors.

Since the EPA convinced members of congress to enact the RFS, we all need to lobby against it thru congress in hopes of having the mandate repealed. It is a known scientific fact that the ethanol mandate has not reduced harmful emissions, in fact the problem has worsened our air quality. More diesel is burned to produce corn. Increased fertilizer run-off has degraded water quality even further in areas corn production has increased. By creating a supply/demand issue, food prices (especially meat) have drastically increased due to the amount of corn used to produce ethanol. These are all in addition to the problems ethanol causes to older fuel burning motors. The cost of R & D motor manufacturers encounter are of course passed on to the consumers. Where does this end??
